Pitch perfect

Pitch perfect

The world is full of bright and determined young people who are ready to make a start in the world. They all want to make their mark and be the next big thing.

So why is it that some will succeed whilst others will end up settling?

The truth is that no matter how brilliant you think you are, if you can’t tell anyone about it in a way that excites and engages them, it means nothing.

So start getting clear about exactly what you’re bringing to the table.

Why should someone listen to you?
What makes you stand out?
Why are you uniquely remarkable?

Then practise saying it. Practise in front of the mirror, in the bath, on the bus. Tell your mum, your brother, your best mate, the guy in the local shop. Practise saying it until you’re blue in the face. Just do it. Start showing up in the world and see how people respond.

What do people say about you when you’re not in the room?

What do people say about you when you’re not in the room?

Does it matter? Probably, but not for the reasons you may think.

What they say about you is the story they’re writing for you- good or bad.

And if you’re starting out in your career, it will determine if they recommend you, if they go out on a limb for you, if they think of you when an opportunity comes up.

So, what stories do people tell about you? And what stories do you want them to tell?

Own your life

Own your life

“My life sucks…”
“So, what do you want?”

If you don’t know where you are going, how are you going to get there? Seriously.

Having a vision for your life doesn’t mean having the whole thing mapped out. But successful people own their life. They are the creators of their own life. Every day. They may change direction a thousand times but they are always on the lookout for the path to THEIR success.

What does success look like for YOU? Take the time. Figure it out. But do the job properly. Acquisition success. Relationship success. Character success…

You have freedom. Are you using it?

You have freedom. Are you using it?

Common to all people is the desire for freedom. The freedom to choose the life that we want, to be the person that we want to be, to do the work that inspires us and to surround ourselves with the people that we love and who love us.

You have this freedom.

If you want to be a top lawyer or live in a cabin by a lake, be the life and soul of the party or a pioneering therapist, surround yourself with family or join a community……it is down to you. But with freedom comes responsibility. The responsibility to make things happen. The responsibility to choose a direction, a response, a focus. Without responsibility, you have no freedom.

The secret

The secret

You have no idea how many times I get asked the secret of success. Businesses, clients, schools. So here it is – I am giving it to you here and now. The three steps:

First you have to know yourself, deeply. Your purpose, what strengthens you and why you are here.

Then you have to notice your patterns, your belief systems, your perspectives and be prepared to see them for what they are – an overlay, white noise, stuff to be chosen and not to be accepted blindly.

And then you have to learn to do certain things well. Things that make a difference to how others relate to you and how you relate to yourself.

This is the process.

And the magic ingredients? Desire and courage.
